“I feel as though I am at the best time in my career. During my tenure, dentistry has experienced astounding technological breakthroughs. My challenge is to bring this technology to my patients without losing sight of the principles of trust, concern and genuine respect for my fellow human beings.”
- Dr. Bruenjes

Dr-Bruenjes-formal-3.jpgThe name “Bruenjes” (sounds like “sponges”) is unique. There are only a few of us in the world! Most of the family lives in the Midwest. The name originated in Germany, but the unusual spelling was the result of immigration processing. Just as his name is unique, Dr. Bruenjes is a unique dentist. No, he didn’t set out to be different, but as his professional biography indicates, he has unique qualifications!

As an undergraduate at Westminster College, he was honored as a charter member of Beta Beta Beta Honorary Biological Society. He received his Bachelor of Arts with a major in Biology in 1970.

Following graduation, he enrolled in graduate studies at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. While pursuing a Master’s degree in Physiology, he applied for enrollment at the UMKC School of Dentistry. He learned from his Dental Aptitude Test, “D.A.T.”, that his manual dexterity score placed him in the 99th percentile.

In his first year of dental school, he discovered that his year of graduate studies in physiology, genetics and biochemistry were an excellent foundation for the basic sciences in dentistry.

Dr. Bruenjes excelled in the clinic. That dexterity came in handy! Due to his performance in the clinic, he was selected for an accelerated track of studies which led to his completion of a four-year curriculum in three years and three months.

He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in August 1974.

Few dentists are given the opportunity to enhance their dental education in a hospital residency program. Dr. Bruenjes completed the Veteran’s Administration General Dentistry Residency program at the VA hospital in Houston, Texas. Affiliated with the University of Texas Dental Branch and surrounding medical center hospitals, the residency included rotations in general anesthesia, oral surgery and dentistry for medically compromised patients, including those on chemotherapy. In these times when people live longer due to medical advances, we encounter patients with complicated medical histories. Dr. Bruenjes relies on his advanced training in the evaluation and treatment of medically compromised patients.

Following his residency program, Dr. Bruenjes opened his dental office in West Houston in 1976. He has built and maintained his exclusive private practice on word-of-mouth referrals. Now with decades of experience and countless hours of continuing education, he practices contemporary dentistry and embraces technology in pursuit of the kind of quality that only experience and dedication can produce.

Dr. Bruenjes married his wife, Kim, in 1971. They moved to Houston in 1974 and have lived there ever since. In 1975, they welcomed a daughter, Courtney, and in 1980, they added a son, Colin, to the family. Dr. Bruenjes is now a proud grandfather to Weston (2002), Milo (2004) and Penelope (2015).
